Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent disorder commonly seen in the primary care office. This podcast will assist the primary care practitioner in understanding comorbidities associated with OSA and how these comorbidities and OSA impact one another. Faculty will walk the learner through how to diagnose patients with suspected OSA and how to triage these patients to the correct study.

Human beings have understood the effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for centuries. Dozens of medications and interventions have been approved and prescribed to combat these diseases, and treatments strategies have been developed that depend largely on severity of symptoms and disease staging. In this discussion, Dr. Devarajan will review the staging of COPD and how staging ties into optimal treatments. We will also spend some time reviewing useful prognostic scores, lung cancer screening practices in 2021, and the approach to the breathless patient. Dr. Kumar will focus on the topic of essential basics of interstitial lung diseases for the community of physicians and other clinical healthcare professionals. This will include an overview of various types of interstitial lung diseases with brief discussion on clinical features and radiographic features that distinguish them from each other. This presentation will also highlight some of the newer therapies and advanced treatment options.

This talk will focus on several common and confusing topics and scenarios that often arise in the primary care practice setting. The faculty will review an approach to patients who come into the clinic with a diagnosis of asthma for whom the clinical suspicion is low that includes spirometry and methacholine challenge interpretation. Next, the talk will cover the evidence for using long-term oxygen therapy in respiratory patients and the various oxygen delivery systems. The faculty will also discuss the approach to chronic cough when typical therapies have failed to improve systems as well as current evidence and approach to lung cancer screening.
