High-Yield Updates in Pediatrics: Tackling Obesity, Addressing Food Insecurity, Preventing RSV, and Assessing/Protecting Hearing

This presentation will focus on high-yield updates from recent AAP Clinical Reports. Childhood obesity is a world-wide epidemic and pediatric healthcare professionals should know how to help families optimize health and nutrition to tackle this problem. Food insecurity can lead to undernourished and obese children, and families rarely have the support they need year-round to provide fresh, healthy meals to all family members. Screening for food insecurity and providing resources can be life-changing for a family. There have been sweeping changes in RSV prevention and treatment in 2023, and these updates can help prevent and treat RSV in infants. Keeping updated on these changes is vital to providing interventions to infants who need the care. Lastly, screening for and assessing hearing loss and providing access to an appropriate language is critical for deaf/hard-of-hearing children. Also, hearing children deserve to have their hearing protected from environmental noise, and healthcare professionals must educate and advocate for this in infants, children, and adolescents.
