Opioid Use Disorder: Identification and Management in Primary Care

Opioid use disorder (OUD) remains a pressing public health crisis, yet many patients never receive treatment. In this session, you will learn how to identify OUD in the primary care setting, use brief and non-stigmatizing conversations to engage patients, and initiate or coordinate evidence-based treatment. We’ll review current pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options, discuss harm-reduction strategies, and outline effective referral pathways. Through case-based examples, you’ll gain practical skills to address OUD with confidence and compassion while navigating regulatory requirements and connecting patients to ongoing support.
