Biography
Roberto Vargas, MD, MPH is Associate Dean for Health Policy and Clinical Partnerships within the College of Medicine and Director of the Health Services Research Center and Policy Pillar of the Urban Health Institute at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU). Dr. Vargas is leading University-wide efforts in expanding our reach through academic-learning health system partnerships, health policy analysis, health services research, and the educational and curricula content in these domains. His research expertise includes descriptive and comparative analyses of health care interventions to improve health outcomes and reduce disparities in care as well as community engagement in partnered research efforts. He began his career practicing primary care in East Harlem New York before completing the fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard University School of Medicine and a Masters of Public Health degree at the Harvard School Public Health. He did his residency and chief residency in the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program, received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and undergraduate degree in the History and Sociology of Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
