Biography

Dr. Magee is an endocrinologist and associate professor of medicine of the Georgetown University School of Medicine. She is a clinician, health services researcher, and educator. In her role as Director of the MedStar Diabetes Institute, she works with diabetes clinical and self-management programs in the 10 hospital MedStar Health System in Washington, DC and Maryland. She is engaged in the conduct of diabetes health services research in the ambulatory, hospital and community-based settings. Dr Magee’s areas of expertise include diabetes and CVD primary and secondary prevention and management. She has served the NIH Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), Women’s Health Initiative Studies BARI 2D Trials and is currently a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) investigator. She has conducted multiple initiatives in collaboration with and funded by the District of Columbia Department of Health. These projects predominantly address provision of DM and CVD guideline-driven medical and self-management education services and prevention of recurrent visits to the Emergency Department for uncontrolled diabetes among DC residents with or at risk for diabetes and CVD. She also has expertise in the health technology space. Dr Magee has served on national committees including the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Professional Practice Committee, the ADA Research Policy Committee and the American Heart Association’s "The Guideline Advantage" Committee.
