Biography
Andrew E. Budson, MD, is Chief of Cognitive Behavioral Neurology and Director of the Memory Disorders Program at the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System. He is Professor of Neurology at Boston University, Associate Director of the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and Lecturer in Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He graduated from Haverford College and Harvard Medical School, followed by internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, residency in Neurology at the Harvard-Longwood Program, a clinical fellowship in Cognitive Behavioral Neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a research fellowship in Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at Harvard University. He was awarded the Geschwind Prize in Behavioral Neurology and the Research Award in Geriatric Neurology, both from the American Academy of Neurology. He has given over 900 local, national, and international grand rounds and other talks. He has published over 150 papers, reviews, and book chapters and is a reviewer for more than 50 journals. Dr. Budson is co-author of 9 books, including Memory Loss, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Dementia: A Practical Guide for Clinicians, currently in its 3rd edition. His books for the public, Six Steps to Managing Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia: A Guide for Families, Seven Steps to Managing Your Aging Memory, and his latest book for everyone, Why We Forget and How to Remember Better: The Science Behind Memory, have been featured in the New York Times and have been (or are being) translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, and Lithuanian. His research focuses on using strategies to improve memory in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and understanding the relationship between memory, consciousness, and dementia.
