Marina N. Magrey

Biography

Dr. Magrey is a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Director of Arthritis Clinic at MetroHealth (MH) System, Cleveland, OH. She received her MD from the University of Kashmir, India. She joined the faculty after completing an internal medicine residency and fellowship in rheumatology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Magrey’s scholarship focuses on the management of spondyloarthritis (SpA) and metabolic bone disease to improve outcomes in patients with SpA. She directs the MetroHealth spondyloarthritis research center. She serves on the American College of Rheumatology’s (ACR) guideline subcommittee and has worked with colleagues to develop guidelines on the treatment of psoriatic arthritis and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. She has served as PI of multiple grants including from NIH and many international collaborative projects with 37 publications. Nationally, Dr. Magrey is considered a thought leader in spondyloarthritis and is an invited member of ASAS (Assessment in Spondyloarthritis International Society), SPARTAN (Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network), and GRAPPA (Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis) which are study groups of international experts in spondyloarthritis. She also Co-Chairs ACR’s abstract subcommittee for axial spondyloarthritis. She serves as a consultant in clinical research to the pharmaceutical industry and is consulted regarding the rational design of randomized controlled trials, analysis of their results, and presentation of novel products for approval to FDA. Additionally, she enjoys teaching and is the rheumatology fellowship director training the next generation rheumatologist. She serves on the education committee of SPARTAN and on the steering committee of Medscape CME and education, spondyloarthritis section. She also serves on the Board of Cleveland Society of rheumatology. She has earned several honors and is consistently rated as the best doctor in the country. Along with being a great clinician and researcher, Dr. Magrey strongly believes in giving back to her community. She has started the Salam Free Clinic, the first free clinic ever opened in the historically disadvantaged Hough neighborhood of Cleveland. Beyond her work, Marina loves her family, especially her two sons. In her free time, she loves to go on walks, watch the news, or watch the newest shows on Netflix.
